4. Lil Pump. The SoundCloud-era star turned the short, chaotic “Gucci Gang” moment into worldwide recognition. Later releases struggled to recreate that level of cultural impact. Pump remains visible online and still releases music, but the mainstream now treats him more as a personality from a specific era than a consistent chart force.

5. Lil Xan. “Betrayed” placed Lil Xan at the centre of emo rap’s late-2010s explosion. Album delays, health concerns and public controversies disrupted the follow-up. He has continued recording and speaking about recovery, but his audience is far smaller than it was at the height of the SoundCloud boom.

6. 6ix9ine. Tekashi 6ix9ine’s run was built on spectacle, confrontation and viral attention. His criminal case, cooperation with prosecutors and repeated legal problems changed how much of rap culture viewed him. He has remained active, including Spanish-language releases and online promotion, yet his US chart power has fallen sharply from its peak.

7. Trinidad James. “All Gold Everything” produced a major-label deal and one of 2012’s most recognisable rap phrases, but his solo chart career cooled quickly. James later built a productive second act as a songwriter, fashion voice and media personality. His co-writing credit on Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars’ “Uptown Funk” is proof that public visibility and industry value are not the same thing.

8. B.o.B. At the start of the 2010s, B.o.B moved easily between rap and pop radio. Later projects received less mainstream attention, while his public promotion of conspiracy theories became a larger part of his reputation. He has kept releasing independently, serving a dedicated audience rather than chasing the crossover lane that once made him a star.

9. Silentó. “Watch Me (Whip/Nae Nae)” was an enormous 2015 dance hit, but no lasting chart run followed. His life later became dominated by serious legal proceedings rather than music. He was convicted in 2025 over the 2021 killing of Frederick Rooks and received a prison sentence, making this the darkest career collapse on the list.

10. Macklemore. Calling Macklemore a complete disappearance would be inaccurate: he still tours, releases albums and retains a large international audience. But compared with the extraordinary commercial peak of “Thrift Shop” and The Heist, his US chart presence has reduced substantially. His path shows that a fall from superstar-level numbers can still leave a sustainable career.

The larger lesson is that fame is rarely permanent. A career can shrink because of changing taste, label problems, legal consequences, personal choices or simply the impossibility of repeating a once-in-a-generation hit.
