Reports claiming that Chicago rapper Lil Dee 808 was shot—and, in some posts, killed—spread rapidly across rap pages after a real shooting in the city’s Chatham neighbourhood. The underlying incident is confirmed. The identity claims are not.
According to Chicago police information reported by the Chicago Sun-Times, two men were wounded in the 800 block of East 79th Street at about 7:45 p.m. on Wednesday, September 16. Both were taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center, one in serious condition and the other in critical condition. Area 2 detectives are investigating, and police had not released suspect information in the latest established reporting.
What police did not release is equally important: neither victim was publicly named. No police statement, hospital confirmation, medical-examiner record or established news report reviewed by TheRapReporter identifies either man as Lil Dee 808. There is also no verified confirmation that anyone died in the incident.
How the Lil Dee 808 claim spread
Within hours, social accounts began attaching Lil Dee 808’s name to the Chatham report. Some posts went further, describing the shooting as retaliation connected to the recent death of BloodHound Q50 or accusing people of involvement in earlier violence. Those additions did not come from police and were often repeated without a named source.
